Okay, so I lied. It's not just the nine months out of the year that I'm in school. I like to rant whenever I don't have time to go on photo adventures. ;]
Right now, I'm going into my senior year of high school. And I'm tweakin'. Because it's getting to that time. You know the time, when every senior in high school is constantly nervous, tired, and stressed.
Not final exams.
I'm talking about college application time.
Right now, it's June of the summer before my senior year. I have a vague idea of where I want to go. My ACT scores are in (I got a 29, first time, without trying!). So now I guess I should just fill out the apps, write the essays, and I'm golden, yes?
Eh. Not quite. Because I want to be a music major.
It doesn't sound like it would be different from any other major, does it? It's majoring in music, just like somebody would be a history major or a biology major or a theatre major. Well, I guess it's not that different. But there are some differences. This is what I know.
First of all, with a music major, you start music classes right away. It's not really one of those things you can skip for a few years to get your gen. ed's out of the way. You have to stay good at your instrument, which means being in an ensemble and practicing. You also have other classes, like theory, aural training, and beginning instrument classes, so you know what you're teaching.
Just to be accepted as a music major, you need to audition. Which for most people means preparing college audition music. And a lot of people start picking stuff out Junior year. Why am I tweakin' about that? My lesson teacher hasn't even mentioned college auditions. o_O
Basically, at the moment I am just freaking out about college. I was looking up college stuff, and they already have the audition dates posted for 2010. >_>
Currently, I'm looking at University of Illinois, Illinois State University, and Eastern Illinois University, which I know are all amazing music schools.
I'm wondering, does anyone out there in blogland have advice for me? Maybe on college auditions, or which colleges I should look at? It would be much appreciated. :]
Thanks a heap! Peace out, C.
